Will Mullet bikes become more popular?

Mullet bikes with a 29″ front wheel and a 27.5″ rear wheel have been recently approved for racing. An excellent example of a new model comes from Nukeproof. Their Dissent 297 2021 is probably an ideal downhill bike.

When the 29″ bikes were introduced a few years ago, there were many opponents to the trend who kept riding on their 27.5″ wheeled bikes. The conversion to 29″ wheels in my opinion is now permanent. Pretty much all XC bikes are now 29ers and half of all downhill bikes use 29″. There are many advantages of each wheel size, but mixing them it is supposed to combine benefits of each size – so double the benefits. Sounds very attractive, but perhaps that would be to good to be true.

Do you have an opinion about Mullet bikes? Have you tried to convert your own 27.5″ bike into a Mullet bike? Have you tried the new Nukeproof Dissent 297 2021?
