Nov 21, 2020 was the opening day for Sun Peaks Resort. Fortunately, with extra safety measures, the resort has opened today. The temperature was nice around -5℃ with a lot of sunshine and no wind. A perfect day for skiing. All three mountains were open with all chairlifts running.

The new Crystal Chairlift is now located at the Top of the World (2,080m) with the panoramic views all around. The landing area of this chairlift is very similar to the Elevation chairlift. Below you will find a collection of pictures taken on the opening day in the Crystal Bowl area.

Highway 22A got a little busy today – only by the look of the snow tracks. The only crowds were at the base of the Crystal chairlift.

At the bottom of the Crystal chairlift there were two lineups, one from each side. Loading was alternating from each side and everybody was very patient. The wait was no longer than 5-10 minutes.
here were no lineups on the Morrisey side. The snow was today considerably lighter here as compared to some crud on the other side exposed daily to sunshine.

You could find some ropes closing sections off, but only at a couple of places like this one at the entrance to Cover Shot. However, Cover Shot was accessible from Spin Cycle. There is a large volume of powder on those runs.

Although most black runs are open now, some of them still don’t have the snow coverage. A good example is 5th Avenue.
